Supply Chain Mgr - Transportation - Louisville, Kentucky, United States, 40201

The Supply Chain Manager for transportation is a key position in the US Region for the implementation of strategic logistics projects that support and advance the distribution operation at Amgen's Louisville Distribution Center. The individual in this position will be accountable for managing the performance of Amgen's transportation service providers for commercial distribution in the US market. The Supply Chain Manager for transportation is also responsible for evaluating and advancing the cold chain program for the US Region in collaboration with the Corporate Thermal Engineering Systems team.

Primary objectives:
  • Collaborate with 3rd party transportation service providers to ensure adherence to service levels, identifying performance improvement opportunities
  • Conduct quarterly business reviews and address service failures with carriers
  • Establish standardized mechanisms to measure progress against KPI targets by leveraging Amgen's Enterprise Resource Planning system (SAP)
  • Review trial balances from 3rd party freight invoice processing company to ensure accurate transportation billing
  • Serve as the transportation representative for the US region on various cross functional teams, to ensure consistent and well-integrated practices are developed throughout the organization
  • Identify, quantify, and lead initiatives that drive continuous improvement for the distribution process in the US market in alignment with the Operations READ framework (reliability, efficiency, agility, differentiation)
  • Ensure compliance with standard policies and procedures and support, as subject matter expert, regulatory inspections/audits
  • Coordinate DOT/IATA training and support compliance with import, export and C-TPAT requirements
  • Manage quality records related to transportation events and risk assessments required for new transportation lanes
  • Establish an optimal portfolio of transportation shipping solutions to ensure reliable distribution capabilities of cold chain products and execute temperature monitoring plan to assess performance

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree OR

Master's degree and 3 years of Supply Chain or Operations related experience OR

Bachelor's degree and 5 years of Supply Chain or Operations related experience OR

Associate's degree and 10 years of Supply Chain or Operations related experience


Previous managerial experience directly managing people and/or experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Understanding of supply chain business processes (Plan, Source, Make, Deliver & Return)
  • Understanding of industry requirements (GMP, GDP, DOT, IATA & Import/Export)
  • Experience managing 3rd party service providers
  • Experience with information systems (Transportation Management & ERP-SAP (Order To Cash)
  • Experience evaluating/implementing transportation shipping solutions for cold chain (active and passive)
  • Ability to liaise/communicate effectively and easily with cross-functional teams and different cultures
  • Ability to analyze abstract and complex problems requiring evaluation of intangible variables
  • Ability to develop innovative and creative output based on interpretation and analysis
  • Demonstrated success in Operational Excellence and major change management initiatives
  • Experienced with data diagnostics, discovery, modeling, and visualization (i.e. Tableau, Excel)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience working in a global environment, ability to liaise/communicate effectively at different management levels
  • Fluency in English, written and verbal
